Hisn al-Muslim min Adhkar al-Kitab wa al-Sunna (Fortress of the Muslim: Invocations from the Quran and Sunnah) is a handbook of Islamic daily supplications and remembrances compiled by Saeed bin Wahf al-Qahtani (d. 1440 AH / 2018 CE) .

Composition and Purpose

The booklet is an abridgment of the remembrance (adhkār) section of al-Qahtani's comprehensive work, al-Dhikr wa al-Du‘a’ wa al-‘Ilaj bi-l-Ruqa min al-Kitab wa al-Sunna, which he compiled between Sha‘ban 1405 AH and Rabi‘ al-Awwal 1406 AH . Al-Qahtani abridged Hisn al-Muslim in 1409 AH (1988/1989 CE) specifically to create a concise, pocket-sized volume that would be easy to carry during travel and daily life . Later, in Shawwal 1415 AH, al-Qahtani also extracted and vocalized a standalone selection of morning and evening invocations titled Wird al-Sabah wa al-Masa’ directly from Hisn al-Muslim .

Structure and Methodology

In the text, al-Qahtani restricted the entries to the exact wording of the prophetic supplications (matn al-dhikr) without recording full chains of transmission, providing only brief references to one or two primary hadith sources in the footnotes . He directed readers seeking companion attributions or extensive source documentation (takhrij) to consult the unabridged parent work . The book organizes prophetic prayers and invocations according to daily actions and situations, such as waking up, entering and exiting facilities, and various personal circumstances .

Reception and Commentaries

Hisn al-Muslim gained widespread acceptance and circulation among Muslims owing to its compact format and its focus on authentic supplications from the Quran and prophetic tradition .

A commentary on the work was authored by Majdi bin Abd al-Wahhab al-Ahmad . After its publication, al-Qahtani reviewed and annotated the commentary to correct interpretations regarding theological attributes, clarify certain legal rulings according to preferred textual evidence, and restore his original preface and section numbering .
