Hadith Ibn Makhlad an Ibn Karama wa Ghayrihi (Hadith of Ibn Makhlad from Ibn Karama and Others) is a hadith part (juz') compiled by the Baghdadi hadith scholar Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Makhlad al-Attar (d. 331 AH / 943 CE), assembling traditions transmitted through his teachers .
Content and Scope
The work contains narrations transmitted by Ibn Makhlad al-Duri from his teachers, prominently featuring traditions from Muhammad ibn Uthman ibn Karama (d. 256 AH) and Tahir ibn Khalid ibn Nizar al-Ayli, alongside narrations from al-Hasan ibn Arafa and other authorities such as Ubayd Allah ibn Musa . The collection includes prophetic hadiths and early reports covering legal rulings, devotional acts, and eschatological matters, including reports regarding the intercession of the Prophet ﷺ, the descent of Jesus, rules concerning commercial partnership (mudaraba), the prohibition of singling out Friday for fasting, and the virtues of standing in prayer on Laylat al-Qadr .
Transmission and Reception
The compilation's transmission was preserved primarily through Ibn Makhlad's student Abu Umar Abd al-Wahid ibn Muhammad ibn Mahdi al-Farisi . Its chain of audition continued through notable Baghdadi figures, including Rizq Allah ibn Abd al-Wahhab al-Tamimi, Nasr ibn Nasr al-Ukbari, and Umar ibn Karam al-Dinawari . Subsequent traditionalists and compilers cited its reports and recorded its transmission in their hadith catalogs and transmission registers (mashyakhāt) .
Publication
The text was edited by Amir Hasan Sabri and published by Dar al-Basha'ir al-Islamiyyah in Beirut in 1423 AH / 2003 CE as the twenty-first volume of its series dedicated to hadith monographs (Silsilat al-Ajza' wa-l-Kutub al-Hadithiyyah) .
