The author, Abu Amr Uthman ibn Umar ibn Khafif, known by the epithet al-Darraj, was a traditionist from Baghdad described by biographers as trustworthy (thiqah) and noted for his adherence to the Qur'an, religious devotion, and upright character . The scholar Abu Bakr al-Barqani regarded him as one of the righteous substitutes (abdal) . Al-Darraj died suddenly during Ramadan 361 AH (972 CE); Muhammad ibn Abi al-Fawaris recorded his death on Saturday, 7 Ramadan, while another account mentions Friday .

  • Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hisham al-Talaqani
  • Ahmad ibn Habib al-Nahrawani
