Hadith Abi al-Tayyib al-Hawrani (Arabic: حديث أبي الطيب الحوراني) is a specialized hadith tract (juzʾ) compiling narrations transmitted by the Damascene traditionist Abu al-Tayyib al-Hawrani (d. 341 AH / 952–953 CE) from his various teachers .

Authorship and Transmission

The collection bears the formal title al-Juzʾ fihi: min Hadith Abi al-Tayyib Muhammad ibn Humayd ibn Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Hawrani al-Dimashqi ʿan Shuyukhih . Its primary transmitter from Abu al-Tayyib was the Damascene traditionist Tammam ibn Muhammad al-Razi .

The principal chain of transmission (riwayah) for this collection descended from Tammam al-Razi to Abu ʿAbd Allah al-Husayn ibn ʿAli al-Antaki, then to Abu al-Husayn ʿAli ibn Ahmad ibn Mansur ibn Qubays al-Ghassani, and subsequently to Abu al-Hajjaj Yusuf ibn Maʿali al-Kattani .

Reception and Preservation

Later hadith scholars documented their continuous transmission of the juzʾ:

  • Al-Dhahabi noted that Abu al-Tayyib had an independent juzʾ transmitted through the path of Ibn ʿAbd al-Daʾim .
  • Ibn Nasir al-Din al-Dimashqi recorded having heard the work in his transmission audition notes .
  • Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti cataloged Juzʾ al-Hawrani among preserved transmission texts, tracing its chain back through Yusuf ibn Maʿali to Abu al-Tayyib .
  • Ibn al-Mubarrad detailed his unbroken chain of transmission to Abu al-Tayyib through Yusuf ibn al-Zaki al-Mizzi, Ibn ʿAbd al-Daʾim, Yusuf ibn Maʿali, Ibn Qubays, al-Antaki, and Tammam al-Razi .
