Hadith Abi al-Husayn ibn al-Ali (Arabic: حديث أبي الحسين بن العالي) is a collection of hadiths transmitted by the Khurasanian scholar and preacher Abu al-Husayn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Mansur ibn al-Ali al-Bushanji (d. 419 AH / 1028 CE), as selected and curated by the hadith master Abu al-Fadl al-Jarudi (d. 413 AH / 1022 CE) .

Compilation and Content

The work—also referred to as Juz' Abi al-Husayn ibn al-Ali or Fawa'id Abi al-Husayn ibn al-Ali—is a specialized hadith monograph (juz') assembled through the editorial selection (intiqāʾ) of Abu al-Fadl Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Jarudi from the narrations of Abu al-Husayn ibn al-Ali .

The collection preserves prophetic traditions narrated by Abu al-Husayn from various prominent teachers across different scholarly centers, including Abu Ahmad al-Ghitrifi, Mansur ibn al-Abbas al-Faqih, Abu Bakr al-Isma'ili, Abu Ahmad ibn Adi al-Jurjani, Abu al-Husayn Muhammad ibn al-Muzaffar in Baghdad, Abu Bishr Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Qattan in Nishapur, and Abu Hatim Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahid al-Khuza'i in Rayy . The traditions in the collection address topics such as legal rulings, ethical conduct, the virtues of the Companions, eschatological signs, and pious exhortations . In certain entries, al-Jarudi inserted critical evaluations regarding the reliability and solitary transmission status (gharābah) of particular narrations .

Transmission and Reception

The primary transmission of the work was preserved through Abu al-Husayn’s prominent student Abu Isma'il Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Ansari al-Harawi, who lauded Ibn al-Ali as being among the finest of Muslims . From al-Ansari, the text was transmitted by Abu al-Waqt Abd al-Awwal ibn Isa al-Sijzi (d. 553 AH), passing subsequently to Ali ibn Abi Bakr ibn Ruzbah al-Qalanisi .

The collection circulated among later hadith authorities, being recorded in transmission compendia such as Mashyakhat al-Qazwini by Siraj al-Din al-Qazwini and Barnamaj al-Tujibi by al-Qasim ibn Yusuf al-Tujibi . Later biographical scholars, including al-Dhahabi, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, and Ibn Nasir al-Din al-Damashqi, documented having received and studied copies of the juz' with elevated transmission chains (isnād ʿālī) .
