Hadith Abi al-Hasan al-Sukkari (Hadith of Abu al-Hasan al-Sukkari) is a hadith compendium (juz') compiling traditions narrated by the traditionist Abu al-Hasan al-Harbi (d. 386 AH / 996 CE) on the authority of his teachers.

Author and Transmission

The author is Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Umar ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Shadhan ibn Ibrahim ibn Ishaq al-Himyari, known by several nisbas and titles including al-Sukkari, al-Harbi, al-Sayrafi, al-Kayyal, al-Khatli, and al-Hadrami. He authored several hadith parts that were collectively or individually referred to as Hadith al-Harbi, Amali al-Harbi, or al-Harbiyyat. The corpus known as al-Harbiyyat comprises five parts titled al-Fawa'id al-muntaqah al-ghara'ib al-hisan (Selected Benefits of Rare and Fine Narrations); its first part consists of the narrations of Yahya ibn Ma'in via Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Abd al-Jabbar al-Sufi, whereas the subsequent parts contain Abu al-Hasan al-Sukkari's own transmissions from his various shaykhs.

Among the primary transmitters of his hadith parts were al-Qadi Abu Ya'la Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn al-Farra' and Abu al-Husayn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Naqqur al-Bazzaz, who passed them down to later scholars such as Abu al-Fadl Muhammad ibn Umar al-Urmawi and Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abd al-Baqi al-Bazzaz.

Manuscripts and Publication

Multiple manuscript copies of his hadith compilations and dictations are preserved in the al-Zahiriyya Library in Damascus across the al-Majami' al-Umariyya collections (such as volumes 18, 55, 104, 105, and 118).

The text was edited by Nabil Sa'd al-Din Jarrar under the title Hadith Abi al-Hasan al-Sukkari 'an Shuyukhihi and published by Adwa' al-Salaf in Riyadh (1425 AH / 2004 CE) within a composite volume of early hadith works.
