Hadith Abi Abd al-Rahman al-Muqri (Arabic: من حديث أبي عبد الرحمن عبد الله بن يزيد المقرئ مما وافق رواية الإمام أحمد في المسند, Min Hadith Abi Abd al-Rahman Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Muqri mimma Wafaqa Riwayata al-Imam Ahmad fi al-Musnad) is a hadith tract (juz') compiled by the Hanbali traditionist Diya al-Din al-Maqdisi (569–643 AH / 1173–1245 CE) .

Subject and Methodology

The work gathers traditions transmitted by the traditionist and Qur'an reciter Abu Abd al-Rahman Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Muqri (d. 213 AH / 828 CE in Rajab, who resided in Mecca) whose narrations coincide (muwafaqa) with the transmissions recorded by Ahmad ibn Hanbal in his Musnad Ahmad . It is also referred to under the abridged title Muwafaqat al-Muqri .

Operating in the manner of a mustakhraj on selected narrations of al-Muqri in the Musnad, al-Diya al-Maqdisi transmits each report through his own chains of narration—received from his teachers in cities such as Baghdad and Isfahan, including Abu Tahir al-Mubarak ibn Abi al-Ma'ali, Umar ibn Muhammad al-Mu'addib, Abu Ja'far al-Saydalani, and Fatima bint Sa'd al-Khayr—tracing back through earlier authorities such as Al-Tabarani and Bishr ibn Musa to Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Muqri . Following each text, the author notes its transmission by Ahmad ibn Hanbal in the Musnad, points out any minor textual variants, and frequently indicates whether the narration was also recorded by Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari .

Transmission and Manuscripts

The tract was transmitted through direct audition from the author. Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani recorded his transmission chain for the text through Fatima bint al-Munajja on the authority of Sulayman ibn Hamza (al-Taqi Sulayman), who heard it directly from Diya al-Din al-Maqdisi .

A surviving manuscript of the text is preserved at the Zahiriyya Library in Damascus (within collective volume no. 87, fols. 170–185), penned by the author's student Muhammad ibn Abd al-Mun'im ibn Hamal, bearing an audition certificate (sama') written in the hand of Diya al-Din al-Maqdisi dated 633 AH .

Publication

The work was edited by Amir Hasan Sabri and published by Dar al-Basha'ir al-Islamiyyah in Beirut in 1418 AH / 1998 CE as the sixth volume in its series of hadith parts and monographs (Silsilat al-Ajza' wa-al-Kutub al-Hadithiyyah) .
