Hadaiq al-Anwar wa Matali al-Asrar fi Sirat al-Nabi al-Mukhtar (The Gardens of Lights and Risings of Secrets Concerning the Biography of the Chosen Prophet) is a work on the prophetic biography (sirah) authored by the Hadrami Shafi'i jurist and scholar Bahraq al-Yamani (869–930 AH / 1465–1524 CE) .
Composition and Alternate Title
The book is also titled Tabsirat al-Hadrah al-Ahmadiyyah al-Shahiyyah bi-Sirat al-Hadrah al-Ahmadiyyah al-Nabawiyyah (Enlightenment of the Royal Ahmadite Presence Concerning the Biography of the Prophetic Ahmadite Presence) . Bahraq al-Yamani composed and dedicated the work to the ruler of Gujarat in India, Sultan Shams al-Din Muzaffar Shah II (Muzaffar ibn Mahmud Shah), who received him with high honor and patronage when the author settled in India .
Structure and Scope
The author structured the work around two opening sermons (khutbahs) and divided it into two major parts (qisms) :
- Part of Foundations and Precedents (Qism al-Mabadi wa-l-Sawa’iq): Opened with a formal sermon on the Prophet's birth and rank—intended for delivery on pulpits during the month of Mawlid and at assemblies—followed by eight chapters .
- Part of Objectives and Sequels (Qism al-Maqasid wa-l-Lawaḥiq) .
The early chapters of the first part cover:
- An overview summarizing the full narrative of the Prophet's life from birth to death, including his miracles and military expeditions, intended as a self-sufficient synopsis .
- The merits of Mecca and Medina, the Prophet's lineage, and the virtues of his forebears .
- The foretelling of his advent prior to his emergence, including early portents of his prophethood .
- His birth, nursing, and upbringing up to the beginning of his prophetic mission .
