Fiqh al-Dawa fi Sahih al-Imam al-Bukhari (The Jurisprudence of Calling to Islam in Sahih al-Bukhari) is an academic study by Saeed bin Wahf al-Qahtani (d. 1440 AH / 2018 CE) examining the methods, principles, and rulings of Islamic propagation (da‘wah) through selected hadiths from Sahih al-Bukhari .

Background and Scope

The book originated as part of a collective project initiated by the Department of Da‘wah and Hisbah in the College of Da‘wah and Mass Communication to produce an integrated encyclopedia analyzing prophetic traditions from a da‘wah perspective using Sahih al-Bukhari as a foundational source . Al-Qahtani's designated contribution covers a sequence of 192 hadiths spanning four major thematic books within the collection: Kitab al-Wasaya (The Book of Wills), Kitab al-Jihad wa-al-Siyar (The Book of Jihad and Expeditions), Kitab Fard al-Khumus (The Book of the Obligation of the Fifth), and Kitab al-Jizyah wa-al-Muwada‘ah (The Book of Jizyah and Truces) .

Purpose and Content

The study aims to establish a grounded, source-based discipline of fiqh al-da‘wah (the jurisprudence and methodology of calling to Islam) rooted directly in authentic Sunnah . Al-Qahtani defines fiqh al-da‘wah as the deduction and comprehension of the history, motivations, pillars, methods, means, aims, and outcomes of Islamic propagation in light of the Quran, the Sunnah, and the understanding of the righteous predecessors (al-salaf al-salih) .

The analysis extracts da‘wah lessons, rulings, and guidelines across four structural pillars:

  • The Caller (al-Da‘i): The character, qualifications, ethics, and conduct required of a propagator, such as patience, truthfulness, forbearance, courage, and good role modeling .
  • The Recipient (al-Mad‘u): The circumstances and psychological disposition of the addressees, requiring tailored approaches suited to different audiences .
  • The Message (Mawdu‘ al-Da‘wah): The core creedal, legal, and moral topics being conveyed, including noble character and religious obligations .
  • The Means and Methods (al-Wasa'il wa-al-Asalib): The practical tools, tact, leniency, and strategic means utilized to deliver the message effectively .

Publication

The work was published in Saudi Arabia, including a first edition printed in 1420 AH (distributed by Mu’assasat al-Juraysi in Riyadh) and an edition issued in 1421 AH by the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta .
