Fayd al-Bari ala Sahih al-Bukhari (The Overflow of the Creator upon Sahih al-Bukhari) is an Arabic commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari based on the lectures (amali) of the Indian Hanafi scholar Muhammad Anwar Shah al-Kashmiri (d. 1353 AH / 1933 CE; also cited as 1352 AH), compiled and edited by his student Muhammad Badr Alam al-Mirti .

Compilation and Nature of the Text

The book consists of the dictations and scholarly verifications delivered by al-Kashmiri during his instruction of Sahih al-Bukhari . Muhammad Badr Alam al-Mirti gathered, organized, and edited these lectures while serving as a professor of hadith at the Islamic University in Dabhel (al-Jami'a al-Islamiyya بدابهيل) .

To complement the text, al-Mirti composed an accompanying supercommentary printed in the margins, entitled al-Badr al-Sari ila Fayd al-Bari (The Travelling Full Moon unto Fayd al-Bari), in which he provided further elucidations and annotations on al-Kashmiri's commentary .

Reception and Publication

Fayd al-Bari was received with widespread acceptance by hadith scholars and gained popularity among students and scholars across both Arab and non-Arab regions .

The commentary was initially published alongside al-Mirti's marginalia in four large volumes . It was printed in Cairo in 1357 AH at Matba'at Hijazi under the supervision of al-Majlis al-Ilmi (Surat, India), as well as in South Africa . Later editions, including the one published by Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyya in Beirut (1426 AH / 2005 CE), appeared in six volumes .
