Fawaid Abi al-Qasim al-Harfi: Riwayat al-Thaqafi (The Hadith Benefits of Abu al-Qasim al-Harfi: Transmission of al-Thaqafi) is a collection of hadith benefits (fawa'id) narrated by the Baghdadi scholar Abu al-Qasim al-Harfi (d. 423 AH / 1032 CE) and selected from his repertoire by the hadith master Abu al-Qasim Hibat Allah ibn al-Hasan al-Tabari al-Lalaka'i .

Transmission and Selection

The text represents a selection (intikhab) made by al-Lalaka'i from the narrations of Abu al-Qasim Abd al-Rahman ibn Ubayd Allah al-Harfi . This specific recension was preserved and transmitted directly from al-Harfi by Abu Abd Allah al-Qasim ibn al-Fadl ibn Ahmad al-Thaqafi . From al-Thaqafi, the work was received and disseminated by the prominent hadith master Abu Tahir al-Silafi .

Another transmission of al-Harfi's Fawa'id also exists through Abu al-Fadl Muhammad ibn Abd al-Salam al-Ansari, which forms the first part of al-Harfi's collected benefits, while al-Thaqafi's transmission constitutes the second part .

Content and Structure

The work is organized as a concise hadith booklet (juz'). It consists of prophetic traditions and narrations transmitted with full chains of transmission (isnad) reaching back through al-Harfi's teachers, notably Abu Bakr al-Shafi'i (Muhammad ibn Abd Allah al-Shafi'i) and Abu Amr Uthman ibn Muhammad al-Saqati .

The collection covers diverse topics, including prophetic guidance, moral conduct, ritual purification, and prayer . Alongside the texts, critical commentary is provided on individual chains and variants, evaluating narrations as sound (sahih), solitary or rare (gharib), or disconnected (mursal) .

Reception and Publication

The collection was recorded in traditional catalogs of transmitted works (thabat and fihrist literature). Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani cited his transmission of it in al-Mu'jam al-mufahras, noting it as the second part of al-Harfi's hadiths selected by al-Lalaka'i . It was likewise recorded by Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Rudani in Silat al-khalaf bi-mawsul al-salaf through the transmission of Abu Tahir al-Silafi .

In modern print, the text was edited by Abu Abd Allah Hamza al-Jaza'iri and published in 2007 (1428 AH) by al-Dar al-Athariyya in Jordan as part of Majmu' Abi al-Qasim al-Harfi . Another edition was published by Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyya within a collection titled al-Fawa'id li-Abd al-Wahhab ibn Mandah .
