Fawaid Abi al-Qasim al-Harafi Riwayat al-Ansari (Arabic: فوائد أبي القاسم الحرفي رواية الأنصاري), also known as the first part of al-Fawaid al-sihah wa-l-gharaib wa-l-afrad (الفوائد الصحاح والغرائب والأفراد), is a hadith tract containing selected narrations transmitted by the Baghdadi scholar Abu al-Qasim al-Harfi (d. 423 AH / 1031 CE) .

Compilation and Transmission

The material in this tract was extracted and compiled (takhrij and intiqa') from the transmissions of Abu al-Qasim Abd al-Rahman ibn Ubayd Allah al-Harfi by the hadith master Abu al-Qasim Hibat Allah ibn al-Hasan al-Tabari al-Lalaka'i (d. 418 AH) . It was preserved and transmitted directly from al-Harfi by al-Sharif Abu al-Fadl Muhammad ibn Abd al-Salam al-Ansari .

Al-Harfi's fawa'id collections were transmitted through more than one distinct line: while this first part constitutes the transmission (riwayah) of Abu al-Fadl al-Ansari, another independent part was transmitted by Abu Abd Allah al-Qasim ibn al-Fadl al-Thaqafi, both having been selected by al-Tabari al-Lalaka'i . The transmission of al-Ansari was later relayed by scholars such as Abu al-Ma'ali Ahmad ibn Abd al-Ghani al-Bajasra'i, from whom Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi heard the text in Dhu al-Qadah 562 AH, and was also transmitted by Abu Tahir al-Silafi .

Contents and Method

The work brings together rigorous (sihah), singular (afrad), and rare or isolated (ghara'ib) traditions . In addition to prophetic hadiths, its contents include historical reports (athar) and poetic verses . The material is organized under the teachers (shuyukh) through whom al-Harfi narrated, though it does not follow an alphabetical sequence . The text incorporates critical remarks concerning isolated transmissions (afrad) and rare lines of narration .

Manuscripts and Publication

A manuscript copy of the first part of the work is preserved in the al-Zahiriyya Library collection (currently at the al-Asad National Library in Damascus) . The text was edited by Hamza al-Jaza'iri and published in 2007 (1428 AH) by al-Dar al-Athariyyah in Jordan within a volume titled Majmu' Abi al-Qasim al-Harfi, alongside al-Thaqafi's transmission and additional narrations .
