Fatawa al-Shabaka al-Islamiyya

Fatawa al-Shabaka al-Islamiyya (Arabic: فتاوى الشبكة الإسلامية) is an extensive digital compendium of legal rulings issued by the Fatwa Center of the Islamic web portal Islamweb (al-Shabaka al-Islamiyya), compiled collectively by a specialized committee of scholars under the editorial supervision of Abd Allah al-Faqih in Qatar .

Compilation and Structure

The electronic edition was archived from the Islamweb portal on 1 Dhu al-Hijjah 1430 AH (18 November 2009 CE) . At the time of its archiving, the collection brought together all 90,751 Arabic-language fatwas that had been published on the website .

Each entry in the compendium is organized around a specific query submitted by users, identified by a distinct fatwa number, and accompanied by the Hijri date of issuance . The rulings cover a broad range of Islamic disciplines, including doctrinal theology (aqidah), ritual worship (ibadat), personal status and family relations, economic and financial transactions, and modern ethical or technological concerns .

Issuance Workflow

The fatwas are formulated as collective legal determinations rather than individual responsa . The production process follows a four-step editorial cycle:

  1. Drafting by a resident scholar of the committee or an external subject-matter specialist whose methodology and learning are deemed dependable .
  2. Submission to the head of the Fatwa Committee for initial review and doctrinal validation .
  3. Review by a dedicated proofreader (mudaqqiq) .
  4. Final approval by a designated publishing editor (al-adhin bi-l-nashr), who conducts a final examination of both its religious substance and stylistic presentation prior to online publication .

Methodological Approach

The Fatwa Center derives its rulings from the primary foundational sources of Islamic jurisprudence: the Quran, the prophetic Sunnah, scholarly consensus (ijma), and sound analogical reasoning (qiyas) . When juristic disagreement arises on a given question, the committee adopts the position supported by the strongest evidential proof (al-rajih), expressly rejecting arbitrary selection between opinions (takhayyur) or the pursuit of juristic concessions and anomalies (tatabbu al-rukhas wa-l-saqatat) .
