Fadail Surat al-Ikhlas (Faḍāʾil Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ, "The Virtues of Surat al-Ikhlas") is a specialized hadith treatise compiled by the Baghdadi hadith scholar Abu Muhammad al-Hasan al-Khallal (d. 439 AH / 1047 CE) devoted to narrations regarding the merits and rewards of reciting Surat al-Ikhlas .
Subject and Content
The work belongs to the monographic hadith genre focusing on the virtues of specific Qur'anic chapters (faḍāʾil al-suwar) . In manuscripts and later citations, it is also referred to as Min Faḍāʾil Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ wa-Mā li-Qāriʾihā ("Selections from the Virtues of Surat al-Ikhlas and What Awaits Its Reciter") .
Al-Khallal compiled reports with their full transmission chains (asānīd) concerning the spiritual rewards attached to reciting Surat al-Ikhlas, including repeating it a specific number of times, its protection from the Fire, and its role in attaining forgiveness . Later hadith scholars and evaluators frequently cite narrations preserved in this collection while noting that, alongside well-attested traditions about the surah equaling a third of the Qur'an, many of the specialized numerical and reward-focused narrations it contains carry weak (ḍaʿīf), uncorroborated (munkar), or fabricated (mawḍūʿ) chains .
Transmission and Modern Publication
The text was transmitted through chains of audition from al-Khallal; the traditionist Salah al-Din al-Ala'i recorded his reception of the treatise through Ja'far al-Hamadani, from Abu Tahir al-Silafi, from Abu al-Ma'ali Thabit ibn Bundar al-Baqqal, who narrated it directly from al-Khallal .
The treatise has been edited and published in modern times by Muhammad ibn Rizq Tarhuni (Maktabat Laynah, Egypt, 1st edition, 1412 AH / 1991 CE) .
