Durus li al-Shaykh Muhammad al-Munajjid

Durus li al-Shaykh Muhammad al-Munajjid (Lessons of Shaykh Muhammad al-Munajjid) is a compilation of transcribed audio lectures, educational discourses, and sermons delivered by the contemporary scholar and preacher Muhammad Salih al-Munajjid (b. 1381 AH / 1962 CE).

Background and Context

Al-Munajjid's involvement in regular teaching and public lecturing was encouraged by his primary mentor, Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz, who endorsed his participation in lectures, sermons, and scientific lessons through the Center for Da'wah and Guidance in Dammam. Al-Munajjid conducted extensive regular classes at the Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz Mosque in al-Khobar, where he served as imam, delivering series on Quranic exegesis, hadith collections, legal texts, and creed, alongside weekly pedagogical and moral lectures. The compiled transcripts gather his diverse recorded lectures on spiritual, social, biographical, and theological subjects.

Structure and Content

The collection encompasses a broad range of thematic lectures addressing Islamic belief, history, guidance for callers to Islam, and heart-softening exhortations:

  • Biographical and Historical Discourses: Several lessons examine prominent figures across Islamic history. These include a study of the life, asceticism, and campaigns of Saladin (Salah al-Din wa-Tajdid al-Jihad); a survey of the eschatological and Prophetic reports concerning Jesus (Akhbar Isa fi Ahadith Muhammad); an account of the final dying words and virtuous endings of Companions, Successors, and later scholars (Madha Qalu ind al-Mawt); and a commemorative lecture on the life, virtues, and methodology of Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymin (100 Fa'idah min al-Allamah al-Shaykh Ibn Uthaymin).
  • Da'wah and Practical Methodology: The lectures provide guidelines for Islamic advocacy and education. Topics include the principles governing the relationship between the preacher and those being called (Qawa'id fi Ilaqat al-Da'iyah bi-al-Mad'u), pastoral counsel on integrating and supporting penitent Muslims (Istawsu bi-al-Ta'ibin Khayran), and addressing the discrepancy between acquiring religious knowledge and putting it into practice (Limadha La Nutabbiqu Ma Ta'allamnah).
  • Spiritual Purification and Ethics: The text covers topics related to self-discipline and moral conduct, such as combating unlawful physical and psychological desires (Sira' ma'a al-Shahawat) and the scriptural evidence and spiritual benefits of lowering the gaze (Ghad al-Basar).
