Durus al-Shaykh Ahmad Farid (Arabic: دروس الشيخ أحمد فريد, lit. 'Lectures of Shaykh Ahmad Farid') is a compiled collection of transcribed religious lessons, sermons, and lectures delivered by the Egyptian scholar and preacher Ahmad Farid .
Author and Context
The author, Ahmad Mahmud Farid, was born in the Dakahlia Governorate in the Arab Republic of Egypt . He pursued medical studies and obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBCh) from Alexandria University in May 1977 CE . Because of the lack of prominent local scholars in his region during his upbringing, his early religious education consisted of mutual study with peers alongside listening to audio recordings of contemporary scholars . He later had the opportunity to meet, sit with, and converse with several major scholars of the era, including Abdul-Aziz ibn Baz, Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymin, Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani, and Abu Bakr al-Jaza'iri .
In addition to his oral preaching and lectures, Farid authored numerous treatises and books across Islamic creed, spiritual refinement, and prophetic biography, notably al-Bahr al-Raiq fi al-Zuhd wa al-Raqaiq (The Pure Sea in Asceticism and Heart-Softening Traditions), al-Thamarat al-Zakiyyah fi al-Aqa'id al-Salafiyyah (The Pure Fruits of Salafi Creeds), and Waqafat Tarbawiyyah ma'a al-Sirah al-Nabawiyyah (Educational Reflections on the Prophetic Biography) .
Content and Nature of the Work
The collection comprises verbatim and edited transcriptions of the audio-recorded circles, public addresses, and educational series delivered by Ahmad Farid across various mosques and gatherings. The lessons focus heavily on Islamic theology, the characteristics of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah, the refinement of the soul (tazkiyah), asceticism (zuhd), and practical exhortations (wa'z) aimed at students of knowledge and general Muslim audiences .
