Dalil al-Waiz ila Adillat al-Mawaiz (The Preacher's Guide to the Evidences of Sermons) is a multi-volume practical handbook for Islamic sermons and public admonitions compiled by Shehata Saqr .
Purpose and Methodology
The work was compiled to provide structured, comprehensive sermon outlines for Friday preachers (khatibs) and Islamic lecturers . The material was drawn from classical and contemporary scholarly writings as well as online sermon platforms, with texts edited, abridged, or expanded to conform to the compiler's framework .
Each sermon topic is supported primarily by verses from the Quran and authentic hadiths, supplemented by reports from early Muslims (athar), historical narratives, and verses of poetry . The compiler prioritized excluding weak (da'if) and fabricated (mawdu') traditions on the premise that authentic narrations render weak ones unnecessary . For hadith grading, the work relies predominantly on the critical assessments of Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani, and occasionally on Ahmad Shakir or works supervised by Mustafa al-Adawi .
The compiler notes that while several outlines are intentionally detailed and extensive, they are not meant to be delivered in full during a single address—given the Sunnah of keeping Friday sermons concise—but rather serve as an expansive repository from which preachers may select points suitable to their audience and delivery style .
Structure and Contents
The compilation is organized into distinct volumes:
- Volume One: Contains fifty prepared sermons (sermons 1 to 50), preceded by introductory discussions on oratory (khitabah), the technical aspects of the Friday sermon (khutbah), and the duties and ethics of the preacher (khatib) .
- Volume Two: Contains an additional fifty sermons (sermons 51 to 100), followed by an alphabetical compendium of more than 1,350 widely circulated weak, fabricated, or baseless hadiths that are commonly cited on pulpits, alongside authentic alternatives documented in the footnotes where available .
