Ba‘d Fawa’id Sulh al-Hudaybiyya (Arabic: بعض فوائد صلح الحديبية, lit. 'Some Benefits of the Treaty of al-Hudaybiyya') is a short treatise by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (1115–1206 AH / 1703–1792 CE) examining theological, legal, and spiritual lessons derived from the event of the Treaty of al-Hudaybiyya.

Content and Structure

The work is organized as an enumerated list of 139 discrete points or lessons ( فوائد ) extracted from the historical reports of the expedition and the verses of Surah al-Fath.

The author begins by designating the foremost and greatest lesson: God naming the testimony of faith ( لا إله إلا الله ) as "the word of piety" ( كلمة التقوى ), while His enemies deemed it a word of transgression. The numbered points then address multiple facets of the treaty's narrative, including:

  • Spiritual Lessons and Acts of the Heart: The author emphasizes the immense importance of inner states ( أعمال القلوب ), noting how the participants under the tree attained their status through what God knew in their hearts, the constant human need for divine aid and tranquil reassurance ( السكينة ) to remain firm upon faith, and how outward adversity may culminate in divine reward and relief.
  • Legal and Political Principles: The text deduces jurisprudential guidelines from the Prophet's ﷺ actions and diplomacy, including the permissibility of concluding a peace treaty with belligerents for a period of ten years when needed, taking advice and acting upon a woman's sound judgment (such as Umm Salama), utilizing intelligence from non-Muslims when trustworthy, and rulings governing sacrificial animals ( الهدي ) and those prevented from completing pilgrimage rites ( المحصر ).
  • The Virtues of the Companions: The treatise highlights the high rank of the Companions who took part in the Pledge of the Tree ( بيعة الشجرة ), citing the prophetic report that none who pledged there would enter the Fire. It also identifies the event as textual evidence supporting the doctrine of the Sunnis ( أهل السنة ) regarding refraining from delving into the disputes among the Companions and maintaining goodwill toward all of them.

The text concludes at point 139 with a reflection on the overarching blessing of obedience to God and His Messenger ﷺ even when difficult or initially disliked by people.

Publication

The tract is published as a distinct short text within the twelfth volume of the collected works of the author, Mu’allafat al-Shaykh al-Imam Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab.
