Awālī Mālik: Riwāyat Sulaym al-Rāzī is a short hadith compilation (juzʾ) compiled by the Shafi'i jurist and scholar Sulaym ibn Ayyub al-Razi (d. 447 AH / 1055 CE), gathering narrations transmitted through elevated chains of transmission (awālī) originating from Imam Malik ibn Anas .
Content and Transmission
The work belongs to the awālī genre, dedicated to recording hadiths with short chains of intermediaries back to the Prophet ﷺ through early authorities—in this case, Malik ibn Anas . Along with its core narrations from Malik, the collection contains three seven-link narrations (aḥādīth subāʿiyyah) transmitted by al-Razi .
Al-Razi transmitted the part at Ayla in Dhu al-Qiʿdah 445 AH to the Damascene traditionist Ali ibn Ibrahim al-Husayni (known as al-Sharif al-Nasib) . From al-Husayni, it entered regional transmission networks and was conveyed by scholars including Ibn Asakir, Salah al-Din al-Ala'i, and Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani .
Manuscripts and Publication
Manuscript copies of the work are preserved in Cairo (Mulhaq Hadith 145) and the Zahiriyya Library in Damascus (Hadith 387) . The text was edited by Muhammad al-Hajj al-Nasir and published by Dar al-Gharb al-Islami in Beirut (2nd ed., 1998) within a collective volume containing various Awālī Mālik transmissions compiled by other traditionists .
