Asma man Ittafaq al-Bukhari wa Muslim tashih al-riwaya anhu min al-Sahaba wa man infarada kull wahid bi ikhraj hadithihi (Arabic: أسماء من اتفق البخاري ومسلم تصحيح الرواية عنه من الصحابة ومن انفرد كل واحد بإخراج حديثه, lit. 'Names of the Companions Whose Narrations al-Bukhari and Muslim Agreed on Authenticating, and Those Whose Hadiths Were Exclusively Transmitted by Either of Them') is a specialized biographical and hadith treatise by the hadith scholar Ibn Abi al-Fawaris (d. 412 AH / 1022 CE) .
Subject and Structure
The treatise documents the Companions whose narrations were transmitted in the two primary canonical hadith collections—the Sahih of al-Bukhari and the Sahih of Muslim . It identifies the Companions upon whose transmission both compilers agreed, as well as those whose hadiths were narrated exclusively by al-Bukhari or exclusively by Muslim .
The material is structured alphabetically by Arabic letters into chapters (such as Bab al-Alif, Bab al-Ba', and Bab al-Ta'). Under each letter, the author lists the Companions agreed upon by both compilers, followed by those included exclusively by al-Bukhari, and those included exclusively by Muslim .
Relation to Earlier Works and Reception
The treatise addresses the same subject as an earlier work compiled by Ibn Abi al-Fawaris's teacher, al-Daraqutni (d. 385 AH) . In comparison with al-Daraqutni's list, Ibn Abi al-Fawaris includes several additional names, such as Bilal ibn al-Harith (though noted by commentators as an apparent error for Bilal ibn Rabah), 'Abd Allah ibn Hudhafa, and Muhammad ibn Iyas ibn al-Bukayr (narrating from his father) .
Passages from the work were transmitted and cited by later scholars, including al-Humaydi in his al-Jam' bayn al-Sahihayn and Ibn al-Jawzi in Talqih Fuhum Ahl al-Athar and al-Mujtana min al-Mujtaba .
Modern Edition
The text was edited and published by Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah al-Sari' based on two manuscript copies, printed alongside al-Daraqutni's related treatise on the Companions in the Sahihayn .
