Transmission and Recensions

The text represents the specific transmission transmitted by Abu Muhammad Abd Allah ibn 'Ubayd Allah ibn Yahya ibn Zakariyya al-Baghdadi al-Mu'addib, known as Ibn al-Bayya' (d. Rajab 408 AH at the age of eighty-seven), who lived in the Darb al-Yahud quarter of Baghdad and was deemed trustworthy (thiqah) by al-Khatib al-Baghdadi . Ibn al-Bayya' transmitted several parts uniquely from al-Mahamili, and students who received narrations from him included Abu al-Khattab Nasr ibn al-Batar, Abu al-Ghana'im Muhammad ibn Abi 'Uthman, and Abd al-Rahman ibn Ahmad al-Dajaji .

In addition to the recension of Ibn al-Bayya', Amali al-Muhamili was preserved through other independent lines of transmission, most notably:

  • The recension of Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Musa ibn al-Salt al-Mujabbir al-Qurashi (d. 405 AH) .
  • The recension of the Persian traditionist Abu Umar Abd al-Wahid ibn Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Mahdi al-Farisi (d. 416 AH) .
