al-Tuhfa al-Nadiyya Sharh al-Aqida al-Wasitiyya (The Dewy Masterpiece: Commentary on the Wasiti Creed) is a contemporary commentary on Ibn Taymiyya's creedal treatise al-Aqida al-Wasitiyya, authored by Abd al-Rahman bin Abd al-Aziz al-Aql.
Origin and Composition
The work originated as a series of instructional lectures delivered by Abd al-Rahman al-Aql at the al-Awda Mosque in Buraydah in 1429 AH (2008 CE). Students transcribed the audio recordings of the lessons, after which the text was edited, revised, and expanded by the author for publication. The commentary was published by the Publications Department at Markaz al-Nukhab al-Ilmiyya as the third text in the foundational curriculum program al-Manhajiyya al-Ilmiyya al-Ta'siliyya li-l-Tamayyuz.
Structure and Content
The book is designed as a pedagogical commentary intended to provide students of Islamic studies with a clear exposition of the tenets of Ahl al-Sunnah wa-l-Jama'ah based on the Quran and Sunnah.
The commentary opens with an introductory section covering the biography of Ibn Taymiyya—including his teachers, prominent students, theological orientation, and major works—as well as the historical circumstances behind the composition of al-Aqida al-Wasitiyya. It also provides a chronological survey of thirteen earlier commentaries written on the treatise, including works by Faysal bin Abd al-Aziz Al Mubarak, Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al al-Sheikh, Muhammad Khalil Harras, Muhammad bin Abd al-Aziz ibn Mani', Zayd bin Abd al-Aziz bin Fayyad, Abd al-Aziz al-Nasir al-Rashid, Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymin, Abd al-Aziz al-Muhammad al-Salman, Salih bin Fawzan al-Fawzan, Abdullah bin Abd al-Rahman al-Jibreen, and Abd al-Rahman bin Nasir al-Barrak. The author then presents a detailed textual commentary on the chapters and creedal themes outlined in the original matn.
