al-Thani min al-Wakhshiyyat (The Second Part of al-Wakhshiyyat) is the second volume of a five-part hadith compilation selected (intiqaʾ) by the hadith scholar Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Ali al-Wakhshi (d. 471 AH / 1078–1079 CE) from the transmissions of Abu Nu'aym al-Isbahani .
Overview and Composition
The broader work, titled al-Wakhshiyyat, consists of five parts (ajzaʾ) compiled by al-Wakhshi, a traditionist originating from Wakhsh in the vicinity of Balkh who traveled extensively through Khurasan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, and Isfahan . During his time in Isfahan, al-Wakhshi studied under Abu Nu'aym and extracted these five parts directly from Abu Nu'aym's hadith narrations and materials . The work was noted in bio-bibliographical sources, including al-Dhahabi's Tadhkirat al-huffaz and Siyar aʿlam al-nubalaʾ .
Manuscripts and Preservation
Of the original five parts of al-Wakhshiyyat, only the second and fifth parts are extant . The manuscript of the second part is preserved in the al-Zahiriyya Library in Damascus within the Umariyya collections (al-Majamiʿ al-ʿUmariyya), registered under Majmuʿ no. 105 (as the second item in the volume, spanning folios 20 to 30) . The text transmits individual hadiths with their full chains of transmission, including narrations selected by earlier traditionists such as al-Daraqutni .
