al-Thani min al-Khulaiyat (The Second Part of the Khala'iyyat) is a hadith fascicle (juz') transmitted on the authority of the Egyptian Shafi'i judge and traditionist Abu al-Hasan al-Khala'i (405–492 AH / 1015–1099 CE) .

Compilation and Scope

The work constitutes the second part of the broader hadith compilation formally titled al-Fawa'id al-muntaqat al-hisan min al-sihah al-ghara'ib (Selected Fine Benefits from Sound and Rare Narrations), also known as al-Fawa'id al-muntaqat al-ghara'ib wa-al-'awali or simply al-Khala'iyyat . The collection was extracted and assembled (takhrij) by Abu Nasr Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Husayn al-Shirazi from the audition records (masmu'at) of Abu al-Hasan 'Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Husayn al-Khala'i, after whom the collection was named .

The complete Khala'iyyat corpus comprises twenty individual parts (ajza'), preserved across manuscript copies such as those held at al-Azhar .

Transmission and Content

The primary line of transmission for this second part stems from al-Khala'i to his student Abu Muhammad 'Abd Allah ibn Rifa'a al-Sa'di, who taught it by reading in 543 AH . It was subsequently transmitted by the chief syndic of the nobility (naqib al-nuqaba') in Egypt, the genealogist Sharif Qadi Abu 'Ali Muhammad ibn As'ad al-Husayni al-Maliki, who certified readings of the text at al-Jami' al-'Atiq in Cairo .

The fascicle opens with narrations received by al-Khala'i from his teacher Abu Muhammad 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Umar ibn al-Nahhas al-Bazzar, who narrated from Abu Sa'id Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyad ibn al-A'rabi in Mecca, including the prophetic report transmitted through Safwan ibn 'Assal al-Muradi concerning the virtues of seeking knowledge and the legal rulings on wiping over leather socks (al-mash 'ala al-khuffayn) during travel .
