al-Thani ‘Ashar min al-Khaliyyat (The Twelfth Part of the Khaliyyat) is the twelfth fascicle of the hadith collection al-Fawa’id al-muntaqat al-hisan al-sihah wa-l-ghara’ib (also known as Fawa’id al-Khala‘i or al-Khaliyyat), preserved through the transmission of the Egyptian Shafi‘i traditionist Abu al-Hasan al-Khala'i (405–492 AH / 1014–1099 CE) .

Compilation and Structure

The Khaliyyat is a twenty-part collection of hadiths selected and arranged (takhrij and intiqa’) from the auditions (masmu‘at) of al-Khala‘i by Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Shirazi (Abu Nasr al-Shirazi) . The twelfth part forms one of these discrete constituent fascicles (ajza’), which assemble elevated chains (‘awali), sound reports (sihah), and rare narrations (ghara’ib) that al-Khala‘i received from his teachers in Egypt .

Transmission and Reception

The primary transmitter of the collection from al-Khala‘i was the Egyptian scholar Abd Allah ibn Rifa'a al-Sa'di (Abu Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Rifa‘a ibn Ghadir), through whom the transmission continued to subsequent generations of traditionists . The parts of the Khaliyyat, including the twelfth part, were regularly transmitted in audition sessions (sama‘) across later centuries and recorded in major bibliographic indices and transmission compendia by scholars such as Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani and Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti . Hadith scholars and commentators frequently cite specific texts from the twelfth part in their comparative hadith cross-referencing (takhrij) works .
