Al-Thamin min Fawaid Abi Uthman al-Buhayri (The Eighth Part of the Hadith Benefits of Abu Uthman al-Buhayri) is a specialized hadith tract (juzʾ hadithi) containing narrations from the auditions of the Nishapuri traditionist Abu Uthman Said ibn Muhammad al-Buhayri (d. 451 AH / 1059 CE), selected and extracted by Abu Sa'd Sa'id ibn Muhammad al-Sha'bi .

Compilation and Transmission

The collection represents the eighth fascicle from the larger corpus of extracted narrations (al-Fawaʾid al-mukhrajah) compiled from al-Buhayri's extensive auditions across Khorasan and Iraq . The text was extracted for al-Buhayri by Abu Sa'd Sa'id ibn Muhammad al-Sha'bi and transmitted on his authority by Abu al-Qasim Zahir ibn Tahir al-Shahhami . In 531 AH, the traditionist Abu al-Ala Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Fadl al-Hafiz read the collection to al-Shahhami . It was subsequently transmitted from al-Shahhami by Abu al-Majd Zahir ibn Abi Tahir al-Thaqafi, who taught and read the text in Isfahan during the month of Rabi' al-Awwal in 606 AH .

Structure and Content

The work consists of 64 numbered hadiths recorded with complete chains of transmission (isnad) . The contents span various religious topics, including major sins, prophetic ethics, the times and rulings of prayer, fasting, manumission, supplications, Quranic virtues, and eschatological signs .

Throughout the text, narrations are accompanied by cross-referencing annotations indicating their concordance with the canonical collections of al-Bukhari (abbreviated with kha) and Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj (abbreviated with mim) . Al-Buhayri relates these reports from several leading teachers and traditionists of his era, notably:

  • Abu Ali Zahir ibn Ahmad al-Sarakhsi
  • Abu Muhammad al-Hasan ibn Ahmad al-Makhladi al-Adl
  • His grandfather Abu al-Husayn Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Buhayri, through whom he narrates from Ibn Khuzaymah
  • Abu al-Husayn Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Khaffaf
  • Abu al-Hasan Abd al-Rahman ibn Ibrahim al-Muzakki
  • Al-Hakim al-Naysaburi (Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Abd Allah al-Hafiz)
  • Abu Ahmad al-Hakim (Abu Ahmad Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Hafiz)
  • Abu Ahmad Muhammad ibn Abd Allah al-Anbari, whom he heard in Baghdad
  • Abu Sa'id ibn Hamdun al-Tajir
