al-Targhib fi Fadail al-A'mal wa Thawab Dhalik (Encouragement toward Virtuous Deeds and Their Rewards) is a hadith compilation by the Baghdadi traditionist Ibn Shahin (297–385 AH / 909–995 CE), gathering prophetic narrations and reports concerning the virtues of meritorious deeds and their associated rewards in the afterlife.

Transmission and Content

The work belongs to the classical genre of fada'il al-a'mal (virtues of good works) and was divided into multi-part traditional notebooks (ajza'). In his al-Mu'jam al-mufahras, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani recorded his transmission pathways (asānīd) for the book, noting that he read the seventh part (al-juz' al-sabi') through a line of transmission tracing back through Abu Talib al-Ushari to Ibn Shahin, and received the remainder of the work through another chain also culminating in al-'Ushari from Ibn Shahin.

Publication

The book was edited as a doctoral dissertation by Salih Ahmad Muslih al-Wa'il and published by Dar Ibn al-Jawzi.
