al-Takmil lima fat takhrijuhu min Irwa al-Ghalil (The Completion of What Was Omitted from the Takhrij of Irwa al-Ghalil) is a concise work of hadith extraction (takhrij) by Salih Al al-Shaykh, designed as a supplementary appendix (istidrak) to Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani's Irwa al-Ghalil .
Purpose and Scope
The work focuses on providing source documentation for prophetic traditions (hadith) and non-prophetic reports (athar) cited in Ibrahim ibn Duwayyan's Hanbali legal commentary Manar al-Sabil, which al-Albani had left unlocated or without full attribution in his landmark work Irwa al-Ghalil .
Methodology
In the introduction, the author specifies his criteria for inclusion:
- Extracting traditions that al-Albani mentioned in Irwa al-Ghalil but left without providing a takhrij .
- Sourcing narrations regarding which al-Albani stated "I have not come across it" (lam aqif 'alayh) or "I did not find it" (lam ajidhu), or similar phrasing indicating that he had not located their transmission paths .
- Documenting reports that Ibn Duwayyan had attributed to specific early authorities in Manar al-Sabil but which al-Albani did not extract from those designated original sources .
For each entry, the author quotes the passage from Manar al-Sabil, reproduces al-Albani's evaluation and commentary from Irwa al-Ghalil, and then provides the missing chain of transmission, citing classical hadith collections, musnads, and biographical references to analyze and grade the chain .
Reception and Publication
al-Takmil was first published by Dar al-Asimah in Riyadh in 1417 AH / 1996 CE in a single volume .
The book has been cited by subsequent hadith researchers and commentators on Hanbali texts for its documentation of legal narrations and companion reports . When Abd al-Aziz al-Tarifi composed his broader supplement on Irwa al-Ghalil, titled al-Tahjil fi takhrij ma lam yukharraj fi Irwa al-Ghalil, he noted that he excluded the narrations already successfully traced by Salih Al al-Shaykh in al-Takmil . In digital reproductions of Irwa al-Ghalil, al-Takmil has also been incorporated into the footnotes alongside al-Albani's original text .
