al-Tahsin min Kayd al-Shayatin

al-Tahsin min Kayd al-Shayatin (Fortification Against the Plots of Devils) is an Islamic treatise on spiritual protection and healing by the Saudi author Khalid al-Juraysi, published in Riyadh in 1426 AH / 2005 CE . The book focuses on warding off the harm of devils, sorcerers, charlatans, envy, and the evil eye through legitimate Quranic incantations (ruqya) and Prophetic supplications .

Background and Purpose

Al-Juraysi composed the work to outline Islamic rulings regarding spiritual harms—such as witchcraft, demonic possession, envy, and the evil eye—and to provide Muslims with lawful invocations rooted in the Quran and the Sunna . The author emphasized the necessity of relying strictly on revelation to protect the heart and soul from demonic whisperings and malignant influences .

Structure and Contents

Following an introduction, the book is structured into four main chapters and a conclusion :

  • Chapter One: Clarification of essential terms and concepts (Bayan alfaz wa-mustalahat muhimmah) .
  • Chapter Two: Preventive Fortifications (al-Tahsinat al-waqiyah / Hisn al-mu'min), which details spiritual shields derived from preserving the boundaries of God, including pure monotheism (tawhid), frequent remembrance of God (dhikr), piety and abstention from prohibitions, and adherence to specific Prophetic practices .
  • Chapter Three: Categories of illnesses in general and the principles of lawful treatment (Anwa' al-amrad bi-'ammah wa-usul al-tadawi al-mashru') .
  • Chapter Four: Treatment through lawful incantations (al-Tadawi bi-l-ruqa al-mashru'ah), divided into two sections :
    1. Principles of Ruqya: Defines ruqya, outlines its categories, establishes the legal criteria for permissible incantations, addresses ten key issues related to its practice, and lists conditions necessary for it to be effective .
    2. Texts of Ruqya: Compiles specific recitations from the Quran and the Sunna, including preventive prayers, general healing incantations, specific verses for psychological and spiritual afflictions (the evil eye, envy, magic, possession, distress, and obsessive doubt), verses for physical illnesses, and comprehensive supplications from Prophetic traditions .

Related Works

The author later extracted selections of Quranic ruqya from this book and its counterpart, al-Hidhr min al-Sihr (Beware of Magic), into a concise manual titled Ruqyat al-Abrar .
