al-Tahjil fi Takhrij ma lam yukharraj min al-Ahadith wal-Athar fi Irwa al-Ghalil (The Embellishment in Sourcing the Narrations and Traditions Omitted from Irwa al-Ghalil) is a hadith verification and extraction (takhrij) work by the contemporary Saudi scholar Abd al-Aziz al-Turaifi (b. 1396 AH / 1976 CE). It serves as a critical supplement to Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani's multi-volume work Irwa al-Ghalil fi Takhrij Ahadith Manar al-Sabil.

Purpose and Scope

The work is designed to identify, document, and trace the sources of the prophetic narrations (marfu') and Companion traditions (mawquf) cited by Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Salim ibn Duwayyan in his Hanbali legal manual Manar al-Sabil that were not sourced in al-Albani's Irwa al-Ghalil.

Al-Turaifi focused primarily on several categories of reports:

  1. Traditions cited by Ibn Duwayyan that al-Albani omitted entirely—the vast majority of which are Companion statements (mawquf) that fell outside al-Albani's primary scope in Irwa al-Ghalil.
  2. Narrations cited in Irwa al-Ghalil but left without sourcing.
  3. Reports about which al-Albani remarked "I have not found it" (لم أقف عليه) or similar expressions, excluding those already sourced by Salih ibn Abd al-Aziz Al al-Shaykh in his supplementary work al-Takmil lima Fata Takhrijuhu min Irwa al-Ghalil.
  4. Narrations attributed by Ibn Duwayyan to specific authorities where al-Albani extracted them from alternative sources with differing wordings or transmission routes.

Method

Al-Turaifi structured the book according to the legal chapters of Manar al-Sabil, beginning with the Book of Purification (Kitab al-Taharah). He adopted a concise method in evaluating narrators and surveying chains of transmission (turuq): when a narration is soundly established, he refrained from enumerating all of its pathways, whereas for unsound narrations, he cited corroborating routes where available to assess their overall strength. When a narration was repeated in nearby passages of Manar al-Sabil, he omitted the redundant entry or cross-referenced its location in Irwa al-Ghalil or within his own book.

Publication

The work was published by Maktabat al-Rushd in Riyadh in a single large volume spanning around 600 pages, with its first edition appearing in 1422 AH (2001 CE) and a third edition in 1427 AH (2006 CE).
