al-Tadhkira fi al-Fiqh al-Shafi‘i (Arabic: التذكرة في الفقه الشافعي, lit. 'The Reminder in Shafi‘i Jurisprudence'), also known as al-Tadhkira fi al-furu‘, is an abridged manual on positive law (furu‘) according to the Shafi‘i school, authored by the Egyptian scholar Ibn al-Mulaqqin (723–804 AH / 1323–1401 CE) .

Composition and Structure

Ibn al-Mulaqqin compiled the work as a legal handbook for his son . The text is arranged into thematic sections (fusal), opening with the praise of God for His continuous blessings: «الحمد لله على توالي الإنعام» (or in an alternate reading, «أحمد الله على توالي الإنعام») . It serves as a concise pedagogical summary of Shafi‘i substantive law . Hajji Khalifa recorded a report that the Qur'anic exegete Nasir al-Din al-Baydawi likewise authored a work titled al-Tadhkira in the same legal field .

Publication

The text was edited by Yasin al-Khatib and published in a single volume by Dar al-Manara in Jeddah in 1410 AH (1989/1990 CE) .
