al-Siraj al-Munir fi Tartib Ahadith Sahih al-Jami al-Saghir (Arabic: السراج المنير في ترتيب أحاديث صحيح الجامع الصغير) is a contemporary Hadith compilation arranged and annotated by Isam Musa Hadi, reorganizing the authentic hadiths of Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani’s Sahih al-Jami al-Saghir wa-Ziyadatuh into thematic jurisprudential chapters .

Background and Purpose

The original collection, al-Jami al-Saghir, was compiled by Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti, who subsequently authored an addendum titled Ziyadat al-Jami al-Saghir . Later, Yusuf al-Nabhani combined both works alphabetically into al-Fath al-Kabir fi Damm al-Ziyadah ila al-Jami al-Saghir . Al-Albani authenticated and graded these narrations, separating them into two works: Sahih al-Jami al-Saghir wa-Ziyadatuh for authentic and good narrations, and Da'if al-Jami al-Saghir wa-Ziyadatuh for weak narrations .

Because al-Albani’s Sahih al-Jami al-Saghir was structured alphabetically, finding narrations on specific legal or doctrinal topics was difficult for researchers, scholars, and preachers . Although an earlier arrangement according to legal chapters had been prepared by Awni al-Sharif, it omitted the hadith authenticity gradings and source references . Having observed al-Albani continually revising and updating his rulings during his final years and illness, Hadi undertook the project to provide a structured edition reflecting al-Albani’s latest assessments and corrections .

Methodology and Structure

Hadi organized the work according to jurisprudential topics (al-abwab al-fiqhiyyah), relying substantially on the topical framework previously outlined by Zuhayr al-Shawish, which had listed only hadith numbers . The compiler’s editorial method includes:

  • Incorporating al-Albani’s critical notes and rejoinders (ta'aqqubat) on al-Suyuti, drawn from Sahih al-Jami and his other writings .
  • Updating hadith rulings based on al-Albani’s personal handwritten notes and documented retractions—including narrations previously graded as weak in Da'if al-Jami that al-Albani later deemed authentic, as well as vice versa—drawing on Hadi's own records in his book Muhaddith al-Asr al-Imam al-Albani kama Araftuh, as well as works by Abu al-Hasan al-Shaykh and Awdah ibn Hasan .
  • Cross-referencing al-Suyuti’s original transmission sources to rectify editorial lapses and manuscript misattributions .

In the revised third edition completed in Amman in Sha'ban 1429 AH (August 2008 CE), Hadi introduced an index of hadith incipits (atraf al-ahadith), adjusted citations of al-Albani's reference works to more accessible publications, vocalized difficult vocabulary, and added lexical annotations (sharh al-gharib) .

Publication

The work was published in two volumes in 1430 AH / 2009 CE (third edition) by Dar al-Siddiq in al-Jubayl, Saudi Arabia, in cooperation with Mu'assasat al-Rayyan in Beirut, Lebanon .
