al-Sahih min Du'a' al-Hajj wa al-Mu'tamir (The Authentic Supplications of the Pilgrim for Hajj and 'Umrah) is a concise guide compiled and verified by the Egyptian scholar Magdi Fathi al-Sayyid (Abu Maryam), collecting verified prayers and remembrances prescribed for the rituals of the major and minor pilgrimages .

Purpose and Scope

In his preface to the work, the compiler explains that supplications during the pilgrimage rites and other acts of worship should be derived exclusively from the Quran and the Sunnah . He presents a curated selection of authentic Prophetic supplications alongside traditions transmitted from the Companions and early generations (al-Salaf al-Salih) . He explicitly cautions pilgrims against relying on fabricated, overly rhymed, or affected supplications, advising them instead to supplicate with sincerity, insistence, and certainty .

The treatise is organized chronologically according to the stages and rituals of pilgrimage across fifteen distinct sections :

  15. Supplication upon returning from Hajj or 'Umrah (Du'a' al-Ruju' min al-Hajj aw al-'Umrah)

Method and Sources

The author presents each narration with its primary text and provides hadith documentation (takhrij) and source criticism in the accompanying footnotes . He cross-references hadiths and reports to classical collections, including the Muwatta' of Malik ibn Anas, the Sahih works of al-Bukhari and Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj, the Musannaf collections of Ibn Abi Shaybah and 'Abd al-Razzaq al-San'ani, the Sunan compilations of Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, and al-Bayhaqi, and al-Tabarani's Kitab al-Du'a' . When evaluating narrations, he notes their chains of transmission, discusses supporting narrations (shawahid), assesses narrators, and grades the traditions as authentic (sahih) or sound (hasan) . Additionally, the author incorporates brief lexical glosses in the footnotes to clarify obscure Arabic terms occurring in the texts .
