al-Sabi min Fawaid Abi Uthman al-Buhayri (The Seventh Part of the Hadith Benefits of Abu Uthman al-Buhayri) is a hadith tract containing narrations selected from the transmissions of the Nishapur traditionist Abu Uthman al-Buhayri (364–451 AH / 974–1059 CE) .

Background and Compilation

The text forms the seventh part (al-juzʾ al-sābiʿ) of a multi-part collection titled al-Fawāʾid al-mukhrajah min [uṣūl] masmūʿāt al-shaykh al-zakī Abī ʿUthmān Saʿīd ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Buḥayrī . The source authority, Abu Uthman Sa'id ibn Muhammad al-Buhayri, was born in Dhu al-Qi'da 364 AH in Nishapur into a respected scholarly household of probity (bayt al-tazkiya) . Al-Buhayri traveled widely through Khurasan, Iraq, and the Hijaz, gathering elevated chains of transmission (asānīd ʿāliya) in cities such as Nishapur, Sarakhs, Merv, Baghdad, Kufa, and Mecca .

The selection and extraction (takhrīj / intikhāb) of these hadith benefits from al-Buhayri's audition records was compiled for him by the scholar Abu Sa'd Sa'id ibn Muhammad al-Sha'bi .

Transmission and Content

The collection consists of prophetic traditions and narrations recorded with full chains of transmission, transmitted through al-Buhayri from prominent authorities such as Abu Ali Zahir ibn Ahmad al-Sarakhsi and Abu Amr Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Hamdan al-Hiri .

The primary transmission of the collection from al-Buhayri is preserved through his student Abu al-Qasim Zahir ibn Tahir ibn Muhammad al-Shahhami (d. 533 AH) . It was subsequently transmitted from al-Shahhami by Abu al-Majd Zahir ibn Abi Tahir ibn Abi Ghanim al-Thaqafi, who taught and read the text to students in Isfahan .
