al-Muzakkiyat (Arabic: المزكيات), also titled al-Fawāʾid al-muntakhabah al-gharāʾib al-ʿawālī min ḥadīth Abī Isḥāq al-Muzakkī, is a Hadith collection transmitted from Abu Ishaq Ibrahim ibn Muhammad al-Muzakki (d. 362 AH) and selected and compiled by the Hadith master al-Daraqutni (d. 385 AH) .

Subject and Structure

The work belongs to the Hadith literature dedicated to ʿilal (hidden defects in transmission), gharāʾib (rare or solitary narrations), and ʿawālī (elevated chains of transmission) . In it, al-Daraqutni selected and extracted narrations from the Hadith corpus transmitted by Abu Ishaq Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Sakhtawayh al-Muzakki al-Naysaburi from his teachers, recording the chains of transmission alongside critical remarks on narrator solitary transmissions and chain variants .

The narrations are divided across numbered parts (ajzāʾ), such as the first and second parts, and were cited by later traditionists for critical comparison of chains and evaluation of rare narrator paths .

Transmission and Reception

Manuscripts of the work bear audition notes (samāʿāt) from prominent scholars who studied and transmitted the text, including Ibn al-Jawzi, al-Maqdisi, Ibn Taymiyyah, al-Mizzi, al-Birzali, and al-Dhahabi . A manuscript preserving the seventh part of the collection is also preserved in the Zahiriyyah Library in Damascus .

Publication

The book was edited and cross-referenced against manuscript copies by Ahmad ibn Faris al-Sallum and published in a single volume by Dar al-Basha'ir al-Islamiyyah in 1425 AH / 2004 CE .
