al-Muntaqa min al-Fawaid al-Hisan fi al-Hadith ("The Selection from the Fine Benefits in Hadith") is a concise hadith booklet (juz') selected by the traditionist Jamal al-Din al-Mizzi (d. 742 AH / 1341 CE) from a broader collection of narrations transmitted by Abu Hamid Muhammad ibn Harun al-Hadrami.
Transmission and Composition
The selection is drawn from the narrations of Abu Hamid Muhammad ibn Harun ibn Abd Allah ibn Mayyah al-Hadrami from his teachers. The chain of transmission records that it passed from al-Hadrami to Abu Tahir Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Mukhallis in 370 AH, then to Abu al-Husayn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Naqqur, and subsequently to Abu Muhammad Yahya ibn Ali ibn al-Tarrah al-Mudir in Baghdad. It was then received by Abu Hafs Umar ibn Muhammad ibn Tabarzadh al-Dajizi, who taught it in Sha'ban 604 AH at al-Jami' al-Muzaffari.
The transmission continued through Ahmad ibn Shayban ibn Taghlib al-Shaybani and Umm Ahmad Zaynab bint Makki ibn Kamil al-Harraniyya, both of whom transmitted it to al-Qasim ibn Muhammad al-Birzali. Al-Birzali recorded a manuscript copy of al-Mizzi's selection in Sha'ban 719 AH in Damascus.
Content and Structure
The compilation contains a total of fifty-five hadiths and historical reports (athar).
- The opening entry is a prophetic hadith narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayra regarding the acceptance and multiplication of charity.
- The collection comprises various legal, moral, and historical traditions, including rulings on worship, commercial transactions, and prophetic sayings.
- The fifty-fifth and final report records a statement by al-Khalil ibn Ahmad on scribal errors and manuscript transmission, stating that repeated copying can distort texts due to cumulative omissions.
Publication
The work was edited by Sami ibn Anwar Khalil Jahin and published by Maktabat al-Ghuraba' al-Athariyya in Medina in 1418 AH (1997 CE).
