al-Misbah fi Uyun al-Sihah (Arabic: المصباح في عيون الصحاح) is a hadith work by the Hanbali traditionist Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi (541–600 AH / 1146–1203 CE), comprising hadiths from the two foundational collections of al-Bukhari and Muslim .
Structure and Scope
The work functions as an extraction (mustakhraj) upon Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, in which al-Maqdisi records the traditions found in the two works accompanied by his own personal chains of transmission (asanid) . The composition encompasses authentic hadiths and was arranged across forty-eight parts (ajza') .
Title Variants and Transmission
Bibliographical sources and transmission records cite the work under slight variations of its title, including al-Misbah fi Uyun al-Ahadith al-Sihah, al-Misbah fi al-Ahadith al-Sihah, and al-Masabih fi al-Ahadith al-Sihah . Transmission paths of the work trace back directly to the author through his prominent student al-Fakhr Ibn al-Bukhari . Portions and manuscript copies of the text have been preserved across several archival collections, including the Zahiriyyah Library in Damascus, the Central Library in Riyadh, Dar al-Kutub al-Misriyyah in Cairo, and the Mahmudiyyah collection in Medina .
