al-Maniha bi-Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahiha (Arabic: المنيحة بسلسلة الأحاديث الصحيحة, lit. 'The Gift in the Series of Authentic Hadiths') is a hadith compilation prepared by Abu 'Amr Ahmad ibn 'Atiyyah al-Wakil, gathering the authentic and sound prophetic traditions and early narrations evaluated and authenticated across the published works of Abu Ishaq al-Huwayni .
Background and Purpose
The compilation originated after al-Wakil published his comprehensive index, al-Mu'jam al-mufahras li-l-ahadith al-nabawiyya wa-l-athar al-salafiyya allati kharrajaha al-Shaykh al-Huwayni fi kutubih . Following that publication, several scholars and students—including Wahid ibn Abd al-Salam Bali (Abu 'Ammar)—urged al-Wakil to separate the authentic (sahih) and good (hasan) reports from the weak ones, provide full text for each narration (matn), and include complete source documentation (takhrij) alongside al-Huwayni's evaluations . In response, al-Wakil organized the authentic material into al-Maniha bi-Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahiha, while setting aside weak, disconnected, or fabricated reports for a separate counterpart work dedicated to weak traditions .
Structure and Methodology
The work is organized topically under thematic chapters (abwab) . Following guidance from al-Huwayni, the compiler structured the collection around the text of the hadith rather than its transmission chains (isnad): each entry opens with the authentic matn and its sound paths of transmission, followed under a separate subsection by any scrutinized or problematic transmission lines .
To manage the collection's size and avoid redundancy:
- The hadiths are numbered consecutively, with each volume restricted to 500 reports (Volume 1 covers nos. 1–500, and Volume 2 covers nos. 501–1,000) .
- References to primary printed books and manuscripts are represented through standardized abbreviations and symbols, arranged alphabetically at the beginning of each part for easy reference .
- Repeated scholarly commentary, benefits, and source listings are cross-referenced back to their initial mention .
- Seven analytical indices were appended to conclude the second volume .
Publication
The work was published by Maktabat Ibn 'Abbas in Mansoura, Egypt .
