al-Manaqib al-Mazidiyya fi Akhbar al-Muluk al-Asadiyya (The Mazyadid Merits Concerning the History of the Asadi Kings) is a historical work by the scholar Abu al-Baqa Hibat Allah ibn Nama al-Hilli (fl. 6th century AH / 12th century CE, d. c. 550 AH / 1155 CE) dedicated to the lineage, history, and merits of the Banu Asad tribe and the Mazyadid rulers of al-Hilla.

Content and Scope

The book is devoted to recording the genealogical history, virtues, and political exploits of the Mazyadid dynasty and their ancestral tribe, Banu Asad. It traces the ancestry of the rulers back through the Banu Asad lineage to Asad ibn Khuzayma and Khindif. The text compiles traditions and narrations praising Asad ibn Khuzayma and his descendants, accounts of early Arab monotheism (hanifiyya), historical reports concerning prominent figures such as Sayf al-Dawla Sadaqa ibn Mansur and Dubays ibn Sadaqa, and Arabic poetry composed by tribal poets and princes celebrating their lineage and deeds.

Transmission and Modern Editions

Classical historians consulted the work for the genealogy and biographical details of the Mazyadid dynasty. Ibn al-Adim cited al-Manaqib al-Mazidiyya in his biographical dictionary Bughyat al-Talab fi Tarikh Halab when establishing the lineage and records of the Mazyadid rulers of al-Hilla.
