al-Khutab wa al-Mawaiz (Sermons and Exhortations) is an early compilation of prophetic speeches, testaments, and early Islamic homilies authored by the traditionist and philologist Abu Ubayd al-Qasim ibn Sallam (d. 224 AH / 838 CE) .

The work is introduced under the fuller title al-Khutab wa al-Mawaiz wa al-Hathth ala Amal al-Birr wa Talab al-Khayr (Sermons, Exhortations, and Encouragement toward Righteous Deeds and the Pursuit of Good) . It is arranged thematically into major sections covering:
- Prophetic speeches, testaments, and admonitions delivered by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to the community, including sermons from the Farewell Pilgrimage .
- Sermons and exhortations of the Companions and their successors, including the speeches, counsel, and inaugural addresses of the Caliph Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and subsequent early figures .
Method and Transmission
Abu Ubayd records the speeches and exhortations with full chains of transmission (isnad), transmitting reports through prominent teachers such as Ismail ibn Ayyash, Abd Allah ibn Salih, Abu al-Nadr, and Ali ibn Hashim . The book served as an early source for prophetic and early Islamic oratory, cited by later traditionists and cataloged among the works documenting prophetic speeches .
