al-Khamis min al-Fawaid al-Muntaqat al-Hisan (The Fifth Part of Selected Fine Benefits) is a hadith compilation selected (intiqa') by the hadith master al-Daraqutni (d. 385 AH / 995 CE) from the transmissions of Abu Muhammad Ubayd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn Ma'ruf al-Baghdadi (d. 381 AH / 991 CE) .
Scope and Content
The work belongs to the fawa'id (scholarly benefits) literature, a genre of hadith compilations in which scholars extracted notable, rare, or well-transmitted narrations from the repertoires of specific teachers . This specific installment forms the fifth part (al-juz' al-khamis) of the larger collection selected from Ibn Ma'ruf, and its textual material consists of prophetic hadiths as well as non-prophetic reports (athar) .
Transmission and Manuscripts
The preserved fifth part was transmitted through a succession of notable scholars :
- Narrated from Ibn Ma'ruf by Abu Muhammad al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Muhammad al-Jawhari .
- Transmitted from al-Jawhari by the judge Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abd al-Baqi ibn Muhammad al-Bazzaz .
- Transmitted from al-Bazzaz by Abu Hafs Umar ibn Muhammad ibn Ma'mar ibn Tabarzad .
- Transmitted from Ibn Tabarzad by Shams al-Din Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Asakir .
