al-Istinbatat wa al-Fawaid al-Saadiyya min al-Suwar wa al-Ayat al-Quraniyya (The Sa‘dian Inferences and Benefits from the Quranic Surahs and Verses) is a compilation prepared by Ahmad Murshid, bringing together the analytical inferences (istinbāṭāt) and interpretive benefits (fawāʾid) derived by the scholar Abd al-Rahman al-Sadi from various chapters and verses of the Quran .
Source and Composition
The work extracts and arranges the deductions and benefits found throughout al-Sa‘di's Quranic commentary, Taysir al-Karim al-Rahman fi Tafsir Kalam al-Mannan . The compiler relied specifically on the fifth edition (1440 AH) published by Dar Ibn al-Jawzi under the editorial care of Sa‘d ibn Fawwaz al-Sumayyil, citing its volume and page numbers at the conclusion of each lesson .
Structure and Scope
Murshid organized the book in the form of sequential lessons (durūs) :
- Each lesson opens with the relevant Quranic verse or passage placed at the head of the page .
- The text then presents an enumerated listing of the specific legal, theological, and practical benefits that al-Sa‘di inferred from that passage .
- At the end of each lesson, volume and page references are provided corresponding to the Dar Ibn al-Jawzi edition of al-Sa‘di's Tafsir .
In the introduction, Murshid includes a section featuring selections from al-Sa‘di's statements on the importance of reflecting upon and contemplating (tadabbur) the Quran . He also provides an overview table highlighting passages where al-Sa‘di extracted more than ten points of benefit :
- Verse 6 of Surat al-Ma'idah (the verse of ablution): 51 benefits
- Surat Yusuf: 45 benefits
- Verses 282–283 of Surat al-Baqarah: 37 benefits
- Verses 60–82 of Surat al-Kahf: 37 benefits
- Verses 1–50 of Surat al-Qasas: 34 benefits
- Verses 17–49 of Surat Sad: 25 benefits
- Verses 24–37 of Surat al-Dhariyat: 16 benefits
- Verses 84–95 of Surat Hud: 14 benefits
- Verse 12 of Surat al-Ma'idah: 12 benefits
- Verses 58–59 of Surat al-Nur: 12 benefits
