al-Imla al-Anfas fi Tarjamat Asas (Arabic: الإملاء الأنفس في ترجمة عسعس, "The Most Precious Dictation on the Biography of As'as") is a biographical monograph by the Syrian hadith scholar and historian Ibn Nasir al-Din al-Dimashqi (777–842 AH / 1375–1438 CE) .

Subject and Content

The work is an academic dictation (imla) dedicated to the biography of As'as, referring to As'as ibn Salamah al-Tamimi al-Basri (kunya Abu Sufrah), a transmitter whose reports and biographical classification—notably whether he was a Companion or a Successor whose narrations are mursal—are treated in biographical and transmitter dictionaries . It forms part of Ibn Nasir al-Din's focused biographical and hadith treatises, alongside monographs such as his work on Hujr ibn Adi al-Kindi and Musnad Tamim al-Dari .

The title appears in biographical and bibliographical literature, including al-Sakhawi's al-Daw al-Lami' as al-Imla al-Anfas fi Tarjamat As'as, and in Ismail Pasha al-Babani's Iydah al-Maknun and Hadiyyat al-Arifin under slight orthographic variations (Tarjamat Asas and Tarjamat al-'Asas) .

Manuscript Tradition and Publication

A manuscript copy of the treatise is preserved in the Library of the Holy Mosque in Mecca (Maktabat al-Haram al-Makki, biographical collection no. 106/1), where it comprises six folios .

The text was edited by Mish'al ibn Bani al-Jibrin al-Mutayri and published in Beirut by Dar Ibn Hazm (first edition, 1422 AH / 2001 CE) within a collective volume containing various short treatises by Ibn Nasir al-Din .
