al-Hashiya al-Uthayminiyya ala Zad al-Mustaqni (Arabic: الحاشية العثيمينية على كتاب زاد المستقنع) is a contemporary work of Hanbali jurisprudence compiled and prepared by Hazem Khanfar, published in 1435 AH / 2014 CE. It brings together the legal selections (ikhtiyārāt) and commentaries of Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymin drawn from his multi-volume commentary, al-Sharh al-Mumti ala Zad al-Mustaqni.
Purpose and Scope
The work is organized as a marginal gloss (ḥāshiya) on Musa al-Hajjawi's classical Hanbali summary Zad al-Mustaqni. The compiler specifically restricted the focus of the compilation to the legal positions where al-Uthaymin diverged from the standard Hanbali rulings adopted by al-Hajjawi in Zad al-Mustaqni. The compiler generally excluded secondary juristic branches and detailed hypothetical cases (tafrīʿāt) treated in al-Sharh al-Mumti', retaining only a small selection of them for added benefit, along with a few instances where al-Uthaymin agreed with the base text on major issues. In total, the volume comprises 1,950 marginal notes.
Method
Because al-Uthaymin's original commentary extensively detailed scholars' opinions, textual proofs, and legal reasoning, Khanfar summarized these discussions to fit the gloss format while preserving the original phrasing and structure as closely as possible. Minor textual adjustments made to ensure cohesive abridgment—such as transitional particles, adjusted wordings, or explicit additions—are placed inside square brackets, whereas omissions from al-Uthaymin's original wording are designated with ellipses.
