al-Fawaid (Arabic: الفوائد لأبي الشيخ الأصبهاني, lit. 'The Benefits') is a hadith treatise compiled by the Isfahan-based hadith master and scholar Abu al-Shaykh al-Asbahani (274–369 AH / 887–979 CE) .
Transmission and Content
The work belongs to the genre of fawaid (special hadith selections and transmissions) compiled by classical traditionists. In the biographical and bibliographical literature, Abu Sa'd al-Sam'ani recorded related collections by Abu al-Shaykh under titles such as Fawaid al-Iraqiyyin and Fawaid al-Asbahaniyyin, as transmitted through Abu Tahir ibn Abd al-Rahim .
A primary preserved transmission of Abu al-Shaykh's Fawaid is documented through the transmission of Abu Abd Allah Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Malanji from Abu al-Shaykh, transmitted in turn by Abu Sa'id Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Habbal, and related through the prominent traditionist Abu Tahir al-Silafi .
Manuscripts and Publication
A manuscript containing the transmission through al-Silafi is preserved in Damascus at the Zahiriyya Library within a compilation (majmu'), of which a microfilm copy exists at the Islamic University of Madinah . The text was edited by Ali Hasan al-Halabi and published in Riyadh by Dar al-Sumay'i in 1412 AH / 1991 CE .
