al-Fawaid al-Muntaqat al-Hisan lil-Khulai (also known as al-Khulaiyat, in the transmission of al-Saadi) is a collection of hadiths transmitted by the Shafi'i jurist and hadith transmitter Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Khulai (405–492 AH / 1014–1099 CE) . The work comprises selected sound (sihah) and rare (ghara'ib) traditions extracted from his auditory transmissions .
Compilation and Transmission
The material was extracted (takhrij) by Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Husayn al-Shirazi from the heard narrations of al-Khulai, who was regarded as the foremost authority of hadith transmission (musnid) in Egypt during his era .
This recension represents the transmission of Abu Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Rifa'ah ibn Ghadir al-Saadi from al-Khulai . It was subsequently transmitted from al-Saadi in the year 543 AH through the reading of the judge and chief of the nobility (naqib al-nuqaba') in Egypt, Abu Ali Muhammad ibn As'ad al-Husayni al-Maliki, at al-Jami' al-'Atiq .
Structure and Content
The collection originally comprised twenty parts (ajza'), though the tenth part is missing from this manuscript transmission . The text contains prophetic hadiths, narrations of the Companions, and scholarly accounts, transmitted through al-Khulai's teachers; prominent among these chains are narrations received from Ibn al-Nahhas (Abu Muhammad Abd al-Rahman ibn Umar al-Bazzaz), which trace back to Ibn al-A'rabi in Mecca .
Manuscripts and Editions
Copies of the work are preserved in manuscript repositories, including the al-Azhar Library (microfilm no. 228) and the Zahiriyyah Library in Damascus . The collection was edited by Salih al-Lahham and published jointly by al-Dar al-Uthmaniyyah in Jordan and Mu'assasat al-Rayyan in Beirut in 1431 AH (2010 CE) . It was also edited in part as an academic doctoral dissertation submitted to the College of Hadith at the Islamic University of Medina .
