al-Fawaid al-Muntaqa ala Shart al-Imamayn (الفوائد المنتقاة على شرط الإمامين, The Selected Beneficial Hadiths Fulfilling the Criterion of the Two Imams) is a collection of hadith compiled by the Hanbali traditionist and hafiz Abu Ali al-Bardani (d. 498 AH / 1104 CE) .

Attribution and Scope

The work is an extraction (takhrij) and selection (intiqa) prepared by Abu Ali al-Bardani from the transmissions of his contemporary, the Baghdadi nobleman al-Sharif Abu al-Izz Muhammad ibn al-Mukhtar ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahid ibn al-Mu'ayyad bi-Llah (d. 507 or 508 AH) from his various teachers . The full title recorded on the manuscript is al-Juz' al-Awwal min al-Fawa'id al-Hisan al-'Awali al-Muntaqat al-Sihah 'ala Shart al-Imamayni Abi 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari wa-Abi al-Husayn Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj al-Naysaburi, and it is also cited in scholarly references as Fawa'id Ibn al-Mu'ayyad bi-Llah or al-Fawa'id al-Hisan al-Muntaqa 'ala Shart al-Shaykhayn . The work was mentioned among al-Bardani's compilations by his student Abu Tahir al-Silafi .

The text belongs to the specialized genre of fawaid (hadith notebooks and selections) focusing on authentic (sahih) and elevated (ali) transmissions that meet the stringent narrational criteria (shart) established by al-Bukhari and Muslim . Its material comprises both prophetic traditions (ahadith) and companion reports (athar) . Hadith scholars note that organizing a dedicated fawaid volume strictly around the shared criteria of both al-Bukhari and Muslim represents an exceptionally rare compositional practice within this genre .

Content and Structure

The preserved first part opens with the famous intention hadith transmitted by Abu al-Izz through Abu Muhammad al-Husayn ibn Ali al-Jawhari, from Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Ja'far al-Qati'i, from Abd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal, from his father Ahmad ibn Hanbal: «إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّةِ، وَلِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى، فَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ عز وجل فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى مَا هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ لِدُنْيَا يُصِيبُهَا، أَوِ امْرَأَةٍ يَتَزَوَّجُهَا فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى مَا هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِ» ("Actions are judged only by intentions, and every person shall have only what they intended. So whoever emigrated for God, his emigration was for God; and whoever emigrated for worldly gain or to marry a woman, his emigration was for that to which he emigrated") .
