al-Dhayl ala Juz Baqi ibn Makhlad min Ahadith al-Hawd (The Supplement to Baqi ibn Makhlad's Tract on the Hadiths of the Basin) is a hadith treatise by the Andalusian scholar Ibn Bashkuwal (494–578 AH / 1101–1183 CE) . It serves as an appendix (dhayl) supplementing the earlier collection of hadiths regarding the Prophet's Basin (al-Hawd) compiled by the Cordoban hadith master Baqi ibn Makhlad (d. 276 AH / 889 CE) .

Scope and Contents

The work gathers additional prophetic reports and companion narrations concerning the Basin and al-Kawthar that were omitted from Baqi ibn Makhlad's original tract . Ibn Bashkuwal transmits these additional reports with his own chains of transmission (asānīd), receiving narrations through teachers such as Abu al-Walid Yusuf ibn Abd al-Aziz, Abu Muhammad Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Attab, and Ibn Mughith .

The narrations in the text are organized by the individual Companions who transmitted them, including:

  • al-Sanabih
  • Maymunah
  • Jabir ibn Abd Allah
  • Usayd ibn Hudayr
  • Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud
  • Abu al-Darda
  • Abu Bakrah
  • Salman al-Farsi
  • Anas ibn Malik
  • al-Irbad ibn Sariyah
  • A joint narration transmitted by a group of Companions

Publication

The work was edited by Abd al-Qadir Muhammad Ata Sufi and published by Maktabat al-Ulum wa-l-Hikam in Medina (1413 AH / 1993 CE) . The printed edition appeared alongside Baqi ibn Makhlad's base text as well as an additional modern supplement (al-Mustadrak) compiled by the editor .
