al-Dalil ila al-Quran (The Guide to the Quran) is an introductory manual on Quranic studies and sciences written by the contemporary Egyptian author Amr al-Sharqawi (Amr Subhi Ali al-Sharqawi) .

Background and Purpose

The author composed the work to present the essential disciplines of Quranic sciences to modern readers in an accessible, simplified style, aiming to counteract widespread unfamiliarity with the foundational aspects of the Quran . Al-Sharqawi noted that he originally contemplated titling the work al-Tariq ila al-Quran (The Path to the Quran), but selected al-Dalil ila al-Quran because the former had already been used for a published book by Ibrahim al-Sakran . Before publication, drafts of the book were shared with several scholars for feedback and correction .

A revised second edition was completed on 1 Dhu al-Hijjah 1441 AH (July/August 2020 CE), in which the author clarified ambiguous passages and expanded upon certain topics .

Structure and Contents

The book is arranged entirely in a question-and-answer format, a method chosen by the author to emulate the instructional dialogue of the angel Gabriel (Jibril) and to maintain the reader's engagement . The text is divided into eight primary sections:

  1. The Quran: Its Divine Source and History (al-Qur'an: masdariyyatuhu wa-tarikhuhu), covering the nature of revelation, the stages of its descent, and its preservation .
  2. Quranic Sciences (Ulum al-Qur'an) .
  3. The Inimitability of the Quran (I'jaz al-Qur'an) .
  4. Exegesis, Reflection, and Emotional Impact (al-Tafsir, al-tadabbur, al-ta'aththur) .
  5. Memorization and Tajwid (Hifz al-Qur'an wa-tajwiduhu) .
  6. Jurisprudential Rulings Pertaining to the Quran (Ahkam fiqhiyyah tata'allaqu bi-l-Qur'an al-majid) .
  7. Books of Quranic Studies (Kutub al-dirasat al-Qur'aniyyah), which provides reading recommendations and syllabi for students of Islamic knowledge .
  8. Shades: Quranic Posts (Afya': manshurat Qur'aniyyah), an appendix containing reflective commentaries on various chapters and verses .

Sources and Reception

Although the book was written in a streamlined introductory style without extensive inline references, the author identified five core works upon which it drew: al-Muqaddimat al-Asasiyyah fi Ulum al-Quran by Abdullah al-Juday', Madkhal ila al-Ta'rif bi-l-Mushaf al-Sharif by Hazim Haydar, al-Muharrar fi Ulum al-Quran by Musa'id al-Tayyar, Muhadarat fi Ulum al-Quran by Ghanim Qadduri al-Hamad, and Manahil al-Irfan by Muhammad Abd al-Azim al-Zarqani .

The work has gone through multiple printings and has been incorporated into various structured educational curricula, such as the Tali'at al-Kifayah program hosted on the educational platform Innahu al-Quran, where an audio commentary by the author is also provided . It is frequently recommended as a starter text for beginners undertaking the systematic study of Quranic sciences .
