al-Bayyinat fi Sharh Kashf al-Shubuhat (The Evident Proofs in Explaining the Removal of Doubts) is an Islamic theological commentary by the Saudi scholar Ahmad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Qadi on the treatise Kashf al-Shubuhat by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (1115–1206 AH).
Background and Composition
The work originated as a series of lectures delivered during an intensive educational program. The spoken lessons were subsequently transcribed from audio recordings and thoroughly revised and refined by the author into book form. The author concluded the work in Ramadan 1441 AH (2020 CE).
Content and Method
The book provides a systematic, line-by-line explanation of Kashf al-Shubuhat, a classic Hanbali theological treatise devoted to defending the doctrine of Islamic monotheism (tawhid) and refuting arguments used to justify polytheistic practices and intercession through intermediaries.
In his introductory exposition, al-Qadi defines the linguistic and legal meanings of monotheism, detailing its three traditional branches:
- Tawhid al-Rububiyyah (the Lordship of God: creation, sovereignty, and governance)
- Tawhid al-Uluhiyyah (the exclusive worship of God)
- Tawhid al-Asma' wa-al-Sifat (the divine names and attributes)
He addresses the historical origins of idolatry, discussing the excessive veneration of righteous predecessors among the people of Noah and the introduction of idol worship into Arabia by Amr ibn Luhayy. The core of the commentary focuses on approximately thirteen specific theological arguments and doubts (shubuhat) raised regarding supplication, seeking aid (istighathah), and intercession, refuting them using scriptural evidences through a dialectical, question-and-answer format accompanied by supplementary theological points.
